Looking for the best YouTube channels for Pinterest marketing and blogging? These are the 5 creators I personally watch to learn Pinterest traffic, affiliate marketing, blogging, and online business growth.

One of the best things about starting a blog today is that you can learn almost everything for free.

One of the worst things about starting a blog today is that you can learn almost everything for free.

Open YouTube and you’ll find thousands of videos promising overnight success, passive income while you sleep, and Pinterest strategies that supposedly generate millions of pageviews overnight. The problem isn’t finding information. The problem is figuring out who to trust.

As someone who manages six niche blogs and uses Pinterest as a major traffic source, I’ve spent countless hours watching videos about Pinterest marketing, blogging, affiliate marketing, online business, and content creation. Some creators have been incredibly helpful. Others have mostly been helpful at convincing me to click their thumbnails.

Over the years, I’ve narrowed my list down to five creators I consistently come back to. If you’re trying to learn Pinterest marketing, grow blog traffic, understand affiliate marketing, or figure out how to earn money from Pinterest, these are the channels I’d recommend watching first.

Disclosure: None of these creators asked to be featured in this article. These are simply the YouTube channels I personally watch and recommend.

Quick Comparison: My Favorite YouTube Channels for Pinterest Traffic and Blogging

Creator

Best For

Perfect For

Simple Pin Media

Pinterest for Beginners

New Pinterest bloggers

Heather Farris

Pinterest Strategies + Traffic

Beginner / Intermediate Level

Anastasia Blogger

Affiliate Marketing & Monetization

Bloggers ready to make money

Elna Cain (Twins Mommy)

Blogging for Pinterest

New bloggers

Lori Ballen

AI, Affiliate & Content Creation

Visual learners / Passive income

Simple Pin Media (@SimplePinMedia)

Best For: Pinterest Marketing and Traffic Growth

What I appreciate most about Simple Pin Media is that they’re deeply connected to the Pinterest ecosystem. They often have insights into platform updates, best practices, and emerging trends before many other creators begin discussing them. That makes their content especially valuable for bloggers and business owners who rely on Pinterest traffic.

One thing that sets them apart is how well they simplify Pinterest marketing. Instead of overwhelming viewers with complicated strategies, they break Pinterest down into actionable steps that beginners can actually implement.

I also enjoy their interviews with successful bloggers, business owners, and Pinterest users. Hearing real-world success stories often provides insights you won’t find in a typical tutorial.

Another bonus? If you’re not a huge YouTube watcher, they also offer podcast content, making it easy to learn while driving, exercising, or working on your blog.

Why I Recommend Them

Pinterest-specific education

Beginner-friendly explanations

Platform insights and updates

Success story interviews

Podcast option for learning on the go

Best For: Affiliate Marketing, AI Tools, and Blog Monetization

If your goal is to turn your blog into an income-generating asset, Anastasia Blogger is someone worth following.

What I love most about Anastasia’s content is that she’s always exploring new opportunities. Whether it’s affiliate marketing, AI tools, blogging strategies, or creative ways to monetize a website, she consistently stays ahead of emerging trends.

While many creators simply repeat the same blogging advice year after year, Anastasia is constantly testing new tools and looking for innovative ways to grow traffic and revenue.

For bloggers interested in affiliate marketing for beginners, Pinterest affiliate marketing, or finding new monetization opportunities, her channel is packed with useful ideas.

Lori Ballen (@Loriballen)

Best For: Hands-On Marketing Tutorials and AI Tools

I’ve been following Lori Ballen since my days in real estate more than 20 years ago. We were in different parts of the country, but we were both building real estate blogs, focused on SEO (search engine optimization) and learning how to generate multiple streams of semi-passive income.

I love that we’ve both maintained our passion for blogging and now are fully embracing all aspects of digital marketing and AI tools evolved

One thing I especially appreciate about Lori’s content is that she doesn’t just talk about tools and strategies. She actually shows you how to use them.

Many of her videos include live demonstrations where she shares her screen, walks through the process step-by-step, and shows exactly how she accomplishes specific tasks. For visual learners, that’s incredibly valuable.

And even if you aren’t a newbie to content creation or pinterest marketing, you’ll enjoy learning about all the new tools and technology she’s using to to continually grow her business (and her bank account!).

Whether she’s discussing AI tools, content creation tools, blogging, online marketing, or website growth strategies, she consistently provides practical demonstrations that you can easily follow along with.

Why I Recommend Her

Step-by-step tutorials

Real-world demonstrations

AI and marketing tools

Practical implementation advice

Sharing new content creation tools

Generating multiple streams of income online (from Pinterest blogging to Stack, digital downloads, courses and more)

Heather Farris

Best For: Building a Pinterest Strategy That Actually Makes Sense

Heather Farris is another creator I regularly recommend to new bloggers.

Like Simple Pin Media, Heather has extensive Pinterest knowledge and does an excellent job explaining how Pinterest works without making it feel overly technical or intimidating.

One of my favorite things about Heather’s content is her teaching style. She has a simple, straightforward way of presenting information that makes Pinterest feel much easier to understand.

Her videos focus on practical strategies, realistic expectations, and clear explanations, which is exactly what most new bloggers need.

Why I Recommend Her

Extremely beginner-friendly

Easy-to-understand explanations

Actionable Pinterest strategies

Focus on long-term growth

Pinterest blogging tips + tools

New bloggers

Pinterest traffic

Elna Cain (@elna-twinsmommy)

Best For: Getting a Real Life Example of How Blogging Works for a Busy Mom

One reason I’ve always liked Elna Cain’s content is that she feels relatable. She’s not trying to present herself as some mysterious internet millionaire. Instead, she openly shares her blogging journey, experiences, lessons learned, and the strategies that have worked for her.

That authenticity is refreshing.

Elna covers blogging, traffic generation via Pinterest, freelance writing, and affiliate marketing, but she does so from the perspective of someone who has actually built a successful online business rather than simply talking about it.

If you’re brand new to blogging and wondering where to start, her channel is one of the most approachable resources available.

Why I Recommend Her

Honest blogging advice

Real-world experiences

Practical pinterest marketing guidance

Start Here

Elna’s YouTube Channel

Best For

Blogging tips + sharing her traffic and income reports

Pinterest ideas + strategies

What These Creators Have in Common

What’s interesting is that none of these creators teach a get-rich-quick strategy.

In fact, the reason I continue watching them is because they focus on the fundamentals that actually matter:

Creating valuable content

Understanding your audience

Building traffic over time

Growing an email list

Learning affiliate marketing

Diversifying income streams

Building a sustainable online business

And even though I’ve been using Pinterest for over 10 years, it’s still great to tune into see what other content creators are focused on and what’s working (or not working!) for them.

And of over time, the tactics change. Pinterest changes. Google changes. AI tools change. But these core principles continue to work year after year.

If I Were Starting Over Today

If I were starting a brand-new blog tomorrow, I’d subscribe to all five of these channels and spend some time getting to know each creator.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that no single expert has all the answers. Each of these creators brings something different to the table. Some are stronger on Pinterest marketing, some focus more on blogging, some are excellent at affiliate marketing, and others do a fantastic job covering AI tools, content creation, and online business strategies.

You’ll probably find that certain creators resonate with you more than others, and that’s perfectly normal. We all learn differently. Some people prefer detailed tutorials and step-by-step demonstrations, while others enjoy interviews, case studies, or big-picture strategy discussions.

My advice is to listen to a variety of voices, take notes, test ideas for yourself, and figure out what works best for your blog and your audience.

I also want to share one word of caution.

The online business world is full of people promising fast results, six-figure incomes, secret strategies, expensive courses, private memberships, and “proven systems” that supposedly guarantee success. While there are certainly some excellent paid courses and communities out there, I’d encourage you to learn as much as you can for free first.

The creators featured in this article have hundreds of hours of free content available on YouTube. You can learn an incredible amount simply by watching, taking action, and applying what you learn to your own website.

In my experience, the best education comes from doing the work yourself. Start a blog. Create content. Make Pinterest pins. Learn affiliate marketing. Experiment. Make mistakes. Keep going.

Once you’ve built a foundation and understand the basics, you’ll be in a much better position to decide whether a course, coaching program, or paid community is actually worth the investment.

The good news is that you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to get started. You simply need a willingness to learn, take action, and stay consistent.

These five creators can help you do exactly that.

Final Thoughts

There are thousands of YouTube channels covering blogging, Pinterest marketing, affiliate marketing, and online business.

These are the five I consistently come back to.

They teach practical strategies, explain concepts clearly, and focus on building long-term success rather than chasing shortcuts.

If you’re serious about growing a blog, generating traffic from Pinterest, and building an online business that actually lasts, I’d start with these channels and begin learning from people who have already walked the path you’re trying to follow.

SAVE THIS FOR LATER – OR SHARE WITH A FRIEND!

Wondering how to use ChatGPT without losing your unique voice? Learn how to work with AI as a thinking partner, create better blog posts and content, and use simple writing tips to make AI-assisted articles sound more like you.

You know that strange feeling when you read something ChatGPT helped you write and think:

“Well… technically it’s good.”

When I first started using ChatGPT to help write articles, I kept getting drafts that were perfectly fine on paper — accurate, organized, clear. But every time I read one, I’d hesitate before hitting publish. The content wasn’t bad. It just didn’t sound like me.

For a while, I assumed the problem was ChatGPT. What I eventually realized was that the problem was how I was using it.

I was treating it like a content vending machine. Type a prompt, get an article, hope it magically matched the voice inside my head. Of course it didn’t.

Everything changed when I stopped asking ChatGPT to write for me and started using it as a thinking partner.

I’d talk through ideas, explain my audience’s struggles, share half-formed thoughts that weren’t ready to become content yet. And the biggest shift came when I switched to the voice feature instead of typing — being able to ramble naturally meant ChatGPT finally had enough context to actually understand me.

The difference was remarkable (no exaggeration!). Not because the technology got smarter overnight, but because I stopped starving it of the thing it needed most: me.

That’s the real lesson. The goal isn’t to get AI to write like a human. It’s to help AI understand you well enough that it can help you express your ideas more clearly.

The secret isn’t finding the perfect prompt.

It’s learning how to collaborate.

The Real Problem: AI Doesn’t Know You Yet

When people talk about AI writing, the conversation usually goes in one of two directions. One group believes AI is ruining content. The other believes AI can write everything for them.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

ChatGPT is incredibly good at organizing information, creating outlines, summarizing research, spotting gaps in content, and generating first drafts. What it can’t do is draw from your life experiences, your unique perspective, your sense of humor, or the lessons you’ve learned along the way. That’s why AI-generated content often feels polished but generic. The missing ingredient isn’t a better prompt. The missing ingredient is you.

Think of it like hiring an incredibly smart intern. They can research quickly, organize information, draft documents, and identify missing sections in your content. But they can’t understand your business, your audience, or the experiences that have shaped your perspective. That’s why handing AI complete control over your content rarely produces the best results.

Just as you would guide an intern, review their work, and add your own expertise, you need to approach AI as a collaborator rather than a replacement. The creators getting the best results from tools like ChatGPT aren’t using them to do all the thinking. They’re using them to organize ideas faster, explore different angles, and communicate their expertise more effectively. In that sense, AI isn’t replacing your creativity — it’s amplifying it.

Why Talking to ChatGPT Beats Prompting Every Time

One of the biggest misconceptions about AI is that success comes from finding the perfect prompt. If you’ve spent any time on YouTube, you’ve probably seen videos promising “The Ultimate ChatGPT Prompt” or “The One Prompt That Changes Everything.” In reality, conversation beats prompting almost every time.

Most people open ChatGPT and immediately ask it to write something. They type a short request, wait for a response, and hope the result is amazing. But AI works best when it has context — and context comes from conversation.

Before I ask ChatGPT to help me create an article, I spend time discussing the topic first. I’ll explain what my audience struggles with, why I think certain advice is wrong, what I’ve personally experienced, and what angle I want the article to take. Sometimes those conversations are messy and unorganized, but they help AI understand the thinking behind the content. By the time I ask for an outline or a draft, ChatGPT isn’t starting from scratch. It’s building on a conversation we’ve already had.

That simple shift — talking to AI before asking it to produce — can dramatically improve the quality of what it creates. And once you experience that difference, you’ll never go back to the one-line prompt approach again.

How to Help AI Actually Get to Know You (A 2-Step Process)

One of the most powerful things you can do before creating content is stop asking ChatGPT for output and start helping it understand who you are. These two steps are the foundation of everything — and most people skip both of them entirely.

<img decoding="async" width="900" height="1650" src="https://bloomdigital.co/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Teach-ChatGPT-your-writing-style_Bloom-Digital.jpg" alt="Text graphic titled “How I Taught ChatGPT My Writing Style in 2 Simple Steps” with plants, a notebook labeled “Better content.
STEP 01 | The Discovery Interview: Help AI Get to Know You First

One of the most powerful things you can do is stop asking ChatGPT for content and start helping it understand who you are.

Before creating articles, ask ChatGPT to interview you. You might be surprised by how much better your content becomes afterward.

Here’s the exact prompt you can copy and use today:

Discovery Interview Prompt (copy this)

I’d like you to interview me so you can better understand my writing style, personality, audience, experiences, and opinions.

Ask me one question at a time.

Your goal is to learn:

My communication style

My personality

My audience

My professional background

My beliefs and opinions

My sense of humor

Stories and experiences I often reference

Words and phrases I frequently use

Words and phrases I dislike using

Once the interview is complete, create a detailed Author Voice Profile that you can reference when helping me create future content.

SIDE NOTE: The interview process might feel a little weird at first, but what comes out the other side is a profile that gives AI a real foundation to work from — one built on your actual words, not generic instructions.

STEP 02 | The Shortcut Most People Ignore: Share Samples of Your Writing

If you’ve already written blog posts, newsletters, emails, or social media captions, you already have the training material AI needs.

Upload examples of your writing and ask ChatGPT to analyze them. Rather than trying to explain your voice, you’re allowing AI to study actual examples of how you communicate. This almost always produces better results than simply telling AI you want your content to sound conversational, witty, or professional. You’re giving it evidence instead of instructions.

PRO TIP: If you don’t love your current writing style, you can upload examples from bloggers you admire instead — just make sure there’s a consistent theme and personality so ChatGPT doesn’t get confused trying to blend too many different voices.

Your Job: Add What AI Can Never Know

AI is fantastic at creating the framework of an article. It can organize information, suggest sections, improve readability, and speed up the drafting process. But the most memorable parts of any piece of content almost always come from a person.

The stories. The hard-won lessons. The mistakes you made so your reader doesn’t have to. The opinions that make someone nod along and think “yes, exactly.” The moments that make a reader feel genuinely understood — those can’t be generated. They have to be lived.

Whenever I create content with AI, I ask myself one question before I hit publish: “What can I add that AI could never know?”

The answer is usually where the best part of the article begins.

It might be a personal anecdote that perfectly illustrates the point. It might be a contrarian opinion you actually believe. It might just be the way you’d explain something to a friend over coffee.

Whatever it is, that’s your job. AI writes the skeleton. You add the soul.

How to Tell If Your Voice Is Still Missing

If something feels off when you’re reading your draft, trust that instinct. Here are the most common signs that your content still sounds too much like AI — and what to do about each one:

No personal stories or real-world examples. If the article could apply to anyone, it probably won’t resonate with anyone. Add at least one specific experience, even a small one, that grounds the advice in reality.

Generic advice anyone could give. If your content doesn’t reflect your actual opinions or experiences, it blends into the sea of everything else online. Ask yourself: what do I actually think about this? Then say it.

No personality or point of view. Overly polished, balanced, neutral writing is forgettable. Your quirks, your humor, your way of phrasing things — that’s what keeps readers coming back.

Repetitive sentence structures. AI tends to build sentences in very similar patterns. Read your draft out loud and anywhere it sounds monotonous, rewrite it the way you’d actually say it.

If your article could be published under almost anyone’s name, it’s missing your voice. The good news is that’s always fixable — and it usually only takes one honest pass through the draft to bring it back to life.

Final Thoughts

If you’re still feeling a little uneasy about using AI in your writing, that’s actually a good sign. It means you care about your work, your readers, and the value you’re providing.

The good news is that you don’t have to choose between authenticity and efficiency.

When AI has enough context about your experiences, opinions, audience, and writing style, something shifts. Instead of sounding like something generated by a machine, the content starts to feel like your ideas organized more clearly, your experiences explained more effectively, and your expertise communicated with greater confidence.

The best creators aren’t using AI to replace themselves. They’re using it to think better, organize faster, and communicate more clearly.

Because at the end of the day, ChatGPT isn’t the author.

You are.

SHARE THIS WITH YOUR BLOGGER FRIENDS!

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="1650" src="https://bloomdigital.co/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Using-ChatGPT-to-Write-Blog-Posts.jpg" alt="A laptop displaying the ChatGPT logo sits on a desk with a potted plant, a cup, and notebooks.
Starting a blog sounds exciting, but if you’re new to the world of blogging, you probably have a lot of questions.

Blogging Basics

1. What is a blog?

A blog is a website where people regularly post articles (blog posts) on a specific topic. Some blogs are personal, like a digital journal, while others focus on specific industries like food, finance, specific hobbies or travel.

Example: Sarah runs a parenting blog where she shares toddler meal ideas, sleep training tips, and DIY activities. Every week, she publishes a new post, and over time, parents start following her for advice.

2. What do I need to start a blog?

The essentials are:

A blog topic (niche)

A domain name (your website’s address)

A web hosting provider (where your blog is stored online)

A blogging platform (like WordPress, where you create and publish content)

3. Do I need to be a great writer to start a blog?

No! Blogging isn’t about writing like a novelist—it’s about helping people by sharing useful information. If you can explain things clearly and keep readers engaged, you’re good to go.

Example: Jason runs a fitness blog. He’s not a professional writer, but he knows a lot about home workouts. His posts are casual, filled with step-by-step workout routines, and easy for beginners to follow.

4. How much does it cost to start a blog?

A basic blog setup costs around $80–$250 per year for hosting and a domain name. Free options exist (like Blogger or WordPress.com), but they severely limit your ability to make money.

Having an actual wordpress website with your own host is not something you want to skimp on. We’ll find ways for you to be frugal in other areas – promise!

A few quick tips:

Work with a hosting company that gives you a low annual rate for the first year, so you should expect to pay between $75 and $200 annually for hosting.

When you are buying a domain name, search “Go Daddy Promo Codes” on google to find the latest coupons and deals

Once you have a hosting company for your WordPress website, they all have free WordPress themes (that’s the general design of the website). There are some beautiful paid themes available, but don’t get sucked in to that in the beginning. A simple free theme will work perfectly!

5. What should I blog about?

Choose a topic that you enjoy and that people are actively searching for. Some of the most profitable blog niches include:

Health and wellness

Personal finance

Productivity and self-improvement

Travel

Parenting

Business and entrepreneurship

Any hobby related topics (hiking, knitting, running, crafting, etc)

Example: Mike is passionate about budgeting and saving money. He starts a finance blog where he shares easy-to-follow money-saving tips and reviews of budgeting apps.

Setting Up a Blog

6. Which blogging platform is best?

For making money, WordPress.org (self-hosted) is the best choice. Free platforms like Wix or Blogger are okay for personal blogs but aren’t great for monetization.

7. Do I need a custom domain name?

Yes. If you want your blog to look professional, you need a .com domain rather than a free subdomain like yourblog.wordpress.com.

Example: Emily starts a photography blog. Instead of using EmilyPhotography.wordpress.com, she buys EmilyPhotos.com, which looks much more professional.

8. How do I pick a domain name?

Keep it short, easy to spell, and memorable. Avoid numbers, hyphens, and anything difficult to pronounce.

If you need help brainstorming, you can always ask ChatGPT! Over the last few months, I’ve “chatted” with ChatGPT and explained my niche and overall tone for the website and it’s come up with some brilliant ideas for domain names.

Once you have some ideas, go to a site like GoDaddy.com and see if they are available. If they are, purchase one or two – usually it’s only about $10 per year per domain name.

Learn how to create a FREE logo for your website >

9. Where do I get web hosting?

Popular beginner-friendly hosting companies include Bluehost, SiteGround, and WPX.

PRO TIP: I’ve been using WPX hosting for all of my new websites and have been wildly impressed. They have a 24/7 chat service so I can get questions answered in the wee hours of the morning or late into the night. If you ask the chat, they will also install WordPress on your new website for you — it only takes them about 3 minutes, so instant gratification!

10. Do I need coding skills to start a blog?

Nope! Most of the platforms (like WordPress) allow you to create a blog without any coding. Most themes have drag-and-drop builders that make customization easy.

Writing & Publishing Blog Posts

11. How often should I post new blog content?

At least one post per week is a good starting point. The more high-quality content you publish, the faster your blog can grow.

12. What makes a great blog post?

A great blog post:

Answers a specific question

Is easy to read (short paragraphs, headings, and bullet points help)

Provides real value (not just fluff)

13. How long should my blog posts be?

A good range is 1,000–2,500 words. Longer posts tend to rank better on Google, but the key is providing useful information.

Example: Anna runs a skincare blog. Instead of writing a short post about “Best Serums,” she creates a detailed, 2,000-word guide explaining different serums, their benefits, and how to choose the right one. Her post ranks higher on Google because it’s more thorough and helpful to the reader.

14. How do I make my blog posts more engaging?

Make sure you use:

Headings and subheadings to break up text

Images or infographics to add visual interest

Personal stories or examples to make content relatable

Call-to-actions (CTAs) encouraging comments or sharing

15. Do I need to add images to my blog posts?

Yes! Images make your posts more engaging and easier to read. Free stock photo sites like Unsplash or tools like Canva can help.

Growing Your Blog Traffic

16. How do I get people to visit my blog?

The best ways to drive traffic are:

Google SEO – Writing posts that answer common search queries.

Social media – Sharing your posts on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

17. What is SEO, and why does it matter?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is how you get your blog posts to show up on the first page of the Google (or Bing) search results. The better your SEO, the more people find your blog.

Example: David runs a travel blog. Instead of naming his post “My Trip to Italy,” he titles it “10 Best Places to Visit in Italy on a Budget.” His post ranks on the first page of Google because it matches the exact phrase (or keyword) that people search for.

18. How long does it take to get traffic?

Expect at least 3–6 months to see steady growth. Pinterest can bring traffic faster, while Google takes longer.

PRO TIP: If you want to start getting a large amount of traffic to your blog, you can pay to play! Just start running ads on Google Adwords, Facebook or Pinterest and you should quickly see an increase traffic to your website.

19. Do I need social media to grow my blog?

It helps, but Google and Pinterest are the best long-term traffic sources.

20. What are the biggest mistakes new bloggers make?

Not choosing a specific niche

Writing without SEO (keywords) in mind

Giving up too soon (blogging takes time to grow)

Not having a monetization plan from the start

Making Money from Blogging

21. How do bloggers make money?

Ads (Google AdSense, Mediavine and Journey/Grow)

Affiliate marketing (earning commission for recommending products)

Selling digital products (ebooks, templates, courses)

Sponsored posts (brands pay for articles)

Freelance writing or coaching (offering services)

22. How much can I earn from blogging?

New bloggers can make $100–$500 per month in the first year. With consistent growth, many full-time bloggers make $5,000+ per month.

Real Life Example: Lisa started a food blog in 2021. She only made about $120 in her first six months from affiliate links. By year two, her blog was earning over $3,500 per month from ads (using Journey by Mediavine), affiliate links, and selling her digital cookbooks.

23. What’s the fastest way to make money blogging?

Freelance writing – Use your blog as a portfolio.

Affiliate marketing – Promote high-commission products.

Digital products – Sell printables, templates, or ebooks.

25. Is it too late to start a blog in 2025?

Not at all! Blogging is still one of the best ways to build an online business. New blogs pop up every day, and there’s always room for fresh content.

Final Thoughts

What is a blog, and how do bloggers make money? This beginner-friendly guide explains everything, from starting a blog to making money with ads, affiliate links, and digital products.

If you’ve ever Googled a recipe, read an article about personal finance, or found yourself deep in a travel guide online, you’ve already interacted with a blog.

But what exactly is a blog, and more importantly—can you actually make money from one?

The short answer: Yes, and a lot of people do.

If you’re new to blogging, don’t worry. I’ve been earning a living from my blogs for the last 15+ years and have created this guide to break it all down for you in simple terms—what a blog is, how it works, and how bloggers make money (without selling their souls to the internet).

Let’s dive in.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1200" height="2400" src="https://bloomdigital.co/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/How-to-make-money-with-your-blog_Blogging-for-beginners-tips.jpg" alt="Illustration of a smiling person in a white shirt holding money.
So What Exactly is a Blog?

Short answer: A blog is a website.

On the website, people post articles (also called blog posts) on specific topics. Think of it as an online journal, except instead of writing about your day, you’re sharing useful information that people actually search for—like “best home workouts” or “how to start a business.”

Blogs can be:

Personal blogs – Sharing life experiences, opinions, or hobbies

Business blogs – Companies use blogs to attract customers (ex: “5 Ways to Save Money on Insurance”)

Niche blogs – Focused on a specific topic, like fitness, parenting, travel, or finance

How Do Blogs Make Money?

Blogs don’t make money just by existing—you have to monetize them. Here are the main ways bloggers make money:

1. Ads (Passive Income from Display Ads)

Once your blog gets visitors, you can place ads on your site and get paid when people view or click on them.

How it works: Sign up for an ad network like Google AdSense or Mediavine, and they’ll automatically place ads on your site.

How much can you make? Some bloggers make a few dollars a day, while high-traffic blogs can earn thousands per month.

This is one of the easiest ways to make money blogging, but it works best when you have steady website traffic.

2. Affiliate Marketing (Earning Commission from Products You Recommend)

If you’ve ever read a blog post that recommended a product with a link saying, “Click here to buy”, that’s affiliate marketing. Bloggers earn a commission when readers buy something through their links.

Example: You write a post about “Best Kitchen Gadgets,” include a link to a blender on Amazon, and get paid if someone buys it.

Where to sign up? Amazon Associates, ShareASale, and Impact are great places to start.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most profitable ways to make money blogging because you’re getting paid to recommend products you already use and love.

3. Selling Digital Products (Ebooks, Templates, Courses)

Many bloggers create their own products so they can make money without relying on ads or commissions.

Popular digital products:

Ebooks (ex: “How to Start a Blog in 30 Days”)

Printables (planners, checklists, workbooks, how to guides)

Online courses (teaching a skill like photography or budgeting)

Selling digital products is great for passive income because you only create it once but can sell it over and over again.

4. Sponsored Content (Getting Paid to Write About Other Brands or Products)

Brands will pay bloggers to write about their products or services because it helps them reach more people. A few quick examples:

Example #1: A travel blogger gets paid by a hotel to review their resort.

Example #2: A fitness coach gets paid to review / promote a company’s protein powder or supplement on their website.

Example #3: An education style website adds a banner ad to their blog promoting a new laptop.

How much can you make? New bloggers may earn $50–$200 per post, while experienced bloggers can charge thousands for a single sponsored post.

This works best once you have an engaged audience and can show brands that people trust your recommendations.

5. Offering Services (Freelance Writing, Coaching, Consulting)

If you don’t want to wait for your blog to grow, you can offer services right away and use your blog as a portfolio.

Popular services bloggers offer:

Freelance writing (bloggers get paid to write for other websites)

Social media management (helping businesses grow on Instagram, TikTok, etc.)

Coaching or consulting (ex: career coaching, fitness coaching)

This is the fastest way to make money from a blog, especially if you have skills you can offer right now.

How to Start a Blog (Step-by-Step)

“Step-by-Step Guide to [Topic]” (ex: “Step-by-Step Guide to Starting an Online Business”)

Step 4: Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Google SEO – Writing articles that answer common search queries can help you get found on Google.

Social media – Share your blog posts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Email marketing – Build an email list so you can send new blog posts to your subscribers.

7. How do I know if my blog idea will make money?

A profitable blog needs an audience and a way to make money. Here’s how to test your idea:

Search for other blogs in your niche. If they have ads, affiliate links, or digital products, it’s a good sign.

Check affiliate programs. If companies in your niche offer commissions for referrals, that’s another income stream.

Look at Pinterest and Google Trends. If people are searching for topics related to your blog, there’s demand.

8. Can I blog without showing my face?

Yes! Many bloggers stay anonymous by:

Using a pen name or brand name instead of their real name.

Avoiding personal photos and using stock images or graphics instead.

Focusing on written content rather than video or personal branding.

If privacy is a concern, you can still make money blogging without revealing your identity.

9. Do I need social media to succeed as a blogger?

Not necessarily, but it helps. Some bloggers get most of their traffic from Google (SEO), while others grow faster with Pinterest and Instagram. Social media can help you build an audience faster, but it’s not the only way to succeed.

10. What’s the fastest way to make money blogging?

If you want to make money as soon as possible, consider these options:

Freelance writing – Use your blog as a portfolio and offer writing services.

Affiliate marketing – Promote products with high commissions in your blog posts.

Digital products – Sell ebooks, templates, or printables.

Sponsored posts – Once you have an audience, brands may pay you to write about their products.
Display ads (like Google AdSense) take longer to generate significant income because you need a lot of traffic.

11. How many blog posts should I have before launching?

You don’t need hundreds of posts to launch, but having at least 5–10 solid blog posts is a good idea. This gives visitors something to read and helps establish your expertise. After launching, aim for at least one new post per week to grow your traffic.

12. Can I start a blog while working a full-time job?

Absolutely! Many bloggers start as a side hustle and transition to full-time blogging later. The key is time management—set aside a few hours a week to write content, promote your blog, and build your audience. Some bloggers even batch their content (writing multiple posts at once) to stay consistent.

13. What’s the biggest mistake new bloggers make?

The most common mistakes include:

Not choosing a specific niche (trying to blog about everything).

Skipping SEO (not optimizing for Google search traffic).

Giving up too soon (blogging takes time to grow).

Not having a monetization plan from the start.

14. Do I need to know coding to start a blog?

No! Platforms like WordPres let you create a blog without coding. I’ve been creating WordPress websites for over 15 years and still have no idea how to code anything! It’s even easier today to create your own site with zero experience.

15. Is it too late to start a blog in 2025?

Not at all! Blogging is still one of the best ways to build an online business, and there are always new topics and trends to explore. The key is to pick a niche, be consistent, and focus on quality content that helps people.

Final Thoughts

Blogging is one of the best ways to build an online business, but it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time to grow, but if you stay consistent, your blog can become a full-time income source.

The best part? You don’t need to be a tech expert or a professional writer—just start with what you know, share helpful content, and keep going.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog, now is the perfect time to jump in. You never know—your blog could turn into your next big income stream.

1. Decide What You Want to Talk About

Now this may sound like a no-brainer, but it really does require some thought and research to decide what you’d like to cover on your new blog. First, think about things you enjoy or are knowledgeable about and make a list of those different topics and ideas.

Once you have some ideas on the table, now we can hone in a bit more and pick a a niche—the specific topic your blog will focus on. A niche helps you:

Attract the right audience
Rank better on Google
Monetize your blog faster

How to Choose the Right Niche

Passion + Profitability – Pick something you enjoy, but also something people actively search for and spend money on

Check Market Demand – Use Google Trends, AnswerThePublic, and Ubersuggest to find high-interest topics

Find Monetization Opportunities – Can you sell products, courses, or affiliate recommendations?

Pro Tip: Avoid being too broad (e.g., “health”) and instead focus on a specific sub-niche (e.g., “hormone health for women over 40”)

2. Validate Your Idea

Before committing, test if your niche has real audience demand

How to Validate Your Blog Niche

Search your niche on Google Trends—Is it growing or declining?
Look at forums (Reddit, Quora, Facebook groups)—Are people asking questions about it?
Browse Amazon & Udemy—Are people buying books or courses on this topic?
Use ChatGPT to generate blog topic ideas and see if they align with audience interest

Pro Tip: If your topic has zero questions, books, or discussions, it might be too niche

3. Define Your Blog’s Purpose

A blog without a clear purpose will struggle to gain traction. Ask yourself:

Who is my target audience? (Age, interests, problems they face)

What problems does my blog solve? (Helping people lose weight, start a side hustle, etc.)

What do I want to achieve? (Brand awareness, passive income, business growth)

Pro Tip: Your blog should either inform, educate, or entertain—ideally, all three

4. Pick the Right Blogging Platform

Your blogging platform is where your blog lives online

Full control over your site

Best for SEO (Google rankings)

Ability to monetize however you like

Avoid free platforms like Wix & Blogger—they have limited control and monetization options

Pro Tip: Choose a domain name that’s short, memorable, and easy to spell (e.g., SmartFinanceTips.com)

5. Get Reliable Web Hosting

Your hosting service stores your blog’s files and makes it accessible online. Choose one that’s:
Fast & Secure (Speed affects SEO)
Affordable for Beginners
Scalable (Grows with your blog)

Let’s dive in!

What Makes a Niche Profitable?

Before picking a blog topic, you need to make sure it has money-making potential. A niche is profitable if:

People are searching for it online (so you can get traffic).

There are ways to make money from it (so you can turn traffic into income).

It’s not too competitive (so new bloggers can still stand out).

Let’s break these down in beginner-friendly terms.

1. Is There Demand? (Are People Searching for It?)

Your blog needs an audience. If no one is searching for your topic, it’ll be hard to get visitors (also known as traffic).

How to Check Demand:

Google Trends → Search your topic and see if interest is increasing or declining.

Example: “Keto Diet” vs. “Intermittent Fasting”—which one is trending up?

AnswerThePublic → See what questions people ask about your niche.

Example: Type in “budget travel” to find out what people need help with.

Check Online Communities → Are people actively discussing your topic?

Look at Reddit, Quora, Facebook groups, and TikTok hashtags.

Pro Tip: If people ask questions and search for answers, there’s demand!

2. Can You Make Money in This Niche?

A blog doesn’t just make money because it gets views—you need a way (or several ways) to monetize it.

Ways Blogs Make Money:
Affiliate Marketing: You recommend products and earn a commission when someone buys.
Ads (Google AdSense, Mediavine, etc.): You earn from visitors seeing ads on your site.
Digital Products: Selling ebooks, online courses, or printables.
Sponsorships: Brands pay you to mention their products.

How to Check for Monetization Potential:

Google: “Best affiliate programs for [your niche]”

Amazon: Search for products related to your niche

Udemy or Etsy: See if people are buying online courses or digital products in your niche

Pro Tip: If a niche has a lot of paid products, courses, or services, there’s money to be made.

3. How Competitive Is It? (Can You Stand Out?)

Some blog niches are too saturated, meaning they have hundreds of huge websites already ranking on Google.

How to Check Competition:

Search Google → Type in a topic and see if only big websites (like Forbes, WebMD, etc.) rank.

YouTube & Pinterest → Are new creators succeeding, or is it all big brands?

SEO Tools → Websites like Ubersuggest or Ahrefs show keyword difficulty.

Pro Tip: If you see a mix of big websites AND smaller blogs ranking on Google, the niche has room for new bloggers.

Why Niching Down is Essential for Blogging Success

The Mistake: Trying to Cover Everything

Many beginner bloggers fail because they write about too many things (travel, health, tech, personal finance… all on one blog!).

The Solution: Become an Authority in ONE Topic

Google (and readers) trust specialized blogs over general ones.

Example:

Instead of “Fitness”, try “Fitness for Women Over 40”.

Instead of “Travel”, go with “Budget Travel for Solo Female Travelers”.

Benefits of Niching Down:
Easier to rank on Google (because your blog is focused on one topic).
Loyal audience (people come back because they know you specialize in what they need).
Higher earnings (targeted blogs convert better for affiliate sales and sponsorships).

Pro Tip: A niche should be broad enough to have a lot of topics but specific enough to stand out.

Steps to Choosing a Profitable Niche for Your Blog

Step 1: List Your Interests & Expertise

Your niche should be something you enjoy writing about and can stick with for years. If you aren’t passionate about the topic, you’ll get bored quickly (trust me!).

Questions to Ask Yourself:
What topics excite me?
What skills or knowledge do I already have?
What problems have I solved that others struggle with?

How ChatGPT Can Help: Ask “What are some blog niche ideas based on my interests in [topic]?”

Step 2: Research Market Demand

Find out if people are actively searching for your topic.

Beginner-Friendly Tools to Use:

Google Trends → Type in a topic and see if it’s growing.

AnswerThePublic → Discover what people are asking.

Quora & Reddit → Are people looking for help in your niche?

Pro Tip: High demand + low competition = the sweet spot!

Step 3: Analyze the Competition

How to Check If You Can Compete:

Search Google for a topic in your niche. Do big sites dominate, or are smaller blogs ranking?

Look at Pinterest & YouTube—are new creators in your niche succeeding?

Find gaps! Can you provide a new angle?

Step 4: Check Monetization Potential

Make sure people actually spend money in this niche.

Look for affiliate programs in your niche.

Check if there are courses, books, or coaching programs being sold.

See if businesses in the niche do sponsored posts.

Pro Tip: If no one is selling anything related to your niche, it may not be profitable.

You’ve started your new blog, you’re bursting with ideas, and you can’t wait to share them with the world.

But then it hits you—how do you actually write a blog post that people will find, read, and share? Good news: you don’t need magic; you just need strategy.

Attracting traffic to your blog isn’t about reinventing the wheel—it’s about understanding what your audience needs and delivering it in a way that’s engaging, valuable, and easy to find.

Ready to create posts that draw readers like bees to honey? Let’s get started!

Step 1 | Start with Keyword Research

If you want your blog post to show up on Google, you need to know what people are searching for. Keywords are your gateway to organic traffic.

How to Find Keywords:

Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, or AnswerThePublic to uncover popular search terms in your niche.

Look for long-tail keywords (e.g., “easy vegan dinner recipes”)—they’re less competitive and more specific.

Check out related searches at the bottom of Google’s search results for inspiration.

Pro Tip: Choose a keyword or phrase with decent search volume and weave it naturally into your title, headers, and throughout your content.

Step 2 | Write an Irresistible Headline

Your headline is your first (and sometimes only) chance to grab a reader’s attention. Make it count!

Tips for Crafting Headlines:

Be Specific: “How to Bake Bread” is okay, but “How to Bake Perfectly Fluffy Sourdough Bread Every Time” is better.

Use Numbers: Lists work wonders for clicks (e.g., “10 Tips for Better Time Management”).

Promise Value: Make it clear what readers will gain by clicking.

Don’t Forget Your Keyword or Key Phrase: Whatever your primary keyword is for the article, make sure it’s included in the title – preferably at the beginning.

Pro Tip: Use tools like ChatGPT to give you title ideas or CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer to fine-tune your title.

Step 3 | Hook Readers with an Engaging Introduction

Think of your intro as the appetizer—it should make readers hungry for more.

How to Nail Your Intro:

Start with a relatable pain point or question.

Sprinkle in a personal anecdote or bit of humor to connect with your audience.

Clearly state what your post will cover and why it’s worth reading.

Example:
“Struggling to get more readers to your blog? You’re not alone! But don’t worry—by the time you finish this post, you’ll know exactly how to write blog content that attracts traffic and keeps readers coming back for more.”

Step 4 | Organize with Clear Headers and Subheaders

Nobody likes a wall of text. Breaking your content into sections makes it easier to read and SEO-friendly.

Best Practices for Structure:

Use H2s for main sections and H3s for sub-points.

Keep paragraphs short (2-3 sentences max).

Use bullet points or numbered lists for scannability.

Pro Tip: Include your target keyword in at least one subheader to boost SEO.

Step 5 | Provide Real Value

The heart of any great blog post is helpful, actionable content. Readers should leave with their questions answered and problems solved.

How to Add Value:

Offer step-by-step instructions, examples, or case studies.

Share unique insights or perspectives your audience won’t find elsewhere.

Anticipate questions and address them within your post (or in a FAQ section).

Pro Tip: Think about what you would want to know if you were the reader.

Step 6 | Include Engaging Visuals

A picture is worth a thousand words—and it also keeps readers on your page longer.

What to Include:

Custom graphics or charts to explain concepts.

High-quality images or screenshots to break up text.

Embed videos if they add depth to your content.

Pro Tip: Use tools like Canva to create professional-looking visuals, even if you’re a beginner.

Step 7 | Add a Call-to-Action (CTA)

Don’t leave readers hanging! Always guide them toward the next step, whether it’s signing up for your newsletter, reading another post, or leaving a comment.

Examples of CTAs:

“Sign up for my free guide to [topic] here!”

“If you found this helpful, check out my post on [related topic].”

“What’s your biggest challenge with blogging? Share in the comments below!”

Pro Tip: Place CTAs strategically—at the end of your post and subtly throughout.

Step 8 | Optimize for SEO

Good content deserves to be found. Optimizing for search engines ensures your hard work pays off.

Quick SEO Checklist:

Use your keyword naturally in the title, headers, and throughout the content.

Include internal links to your other blog posts.

Add external links to credible sources when relevant.

Write a meta description (150-160 characters) that includes your keyword.

Pro Tip: Compress your images to ensure your page loads quickly—a ranking factor for Google.

Step 9 | Promote Like a Pro

Great content needs a little push to reach its audience.

Promotion Strategies:

Share your post across all your social media platforms.

Use Pinterest to drive traffic—create visually appealing pins with tools like Canva.

Build an email list and share new posts with your subscribers.

Pro Tip: Repurpose your blog post into bite-sized social media content to maximize its reach.

Step 10 | Track, Analyze, and Improve

Writing a blog post is only the beginning. Regularly check how it’s performing and refine your strategy based on the data.

Tools to Use:

Google Analytics: Track page views, bounce rates, and traffic sources.

Search Console: See what keywords are driving traffic.

Hotjar: Understand how visitors interact with your blog.

Pro Tip: Update your posts every few months to keep them fresh and relevant.

Final (Deep) Thoughts

Writing a blog post that attracts traffic might sound daunting at first, but it’s really about creating content that connects with your audience and solves their problems.

By following these tips and staying consistent, you’ll not only attract readers but also build a loyal community around your blog.

So grab your laptop, brainstorm those ideas, and start writing your next traffic-magnet post. You’ve got this!
